Croydon currently has a population of close to 350,000 people but currently there isn’t a central point for people in the borough to get news, events and advice or music related topics. We at Croydon Music aim to be that central point where people can come and find out what’s happening within the borough.
There are many organisations and festivals in Croydon such as the Brit School, The Croydon Summer festival (featuring the Croydon Mela) and much more, and currently more musical activity is being planned.
The UK music industry contributes nearly five billion pounds to our economy every year and more than 130,000 people work in it in some way, shape or form. In a country with a vibrant live music scene, government commitment to music education for young people and a music market that is the third largest in the world, it is no wonder that every day more and more people are setting up in business as retailers, performers, producers and educators.
More than most, if you are successful in the music business you are going to enjoy good times, however it will not always be the case, especially when you are just starting out. Some of the problems that go along with being in the music industry can be avoided and this is the reason why, in partnership with Croydon Business, we have launched Croydon Music, to provide services, support and advice for individuals from Croydon who work in the music industry.
The music industry has changed in all areas whether you are a composer, producer, retailer or performer, and we need to educate ourselves and take advantage of the new opportunities that are available.
Croydon Music has featured events, including seminars, “Croydon Live” (a series of live music events that give performers a chance to showcase their talent) and other networking events, that will give everyone involved in music in Croydon the opportunity to exchange views and find potential business partners.
Empowering Croydons Music Community For Success
We want to empower the Croydon music community, change attitudes and develop a strong message that makes the rest of London take notice of the talent in one its largest boroughs. We want to create a lively cultural hub that will attract creative talent to the area. We want all Croydon music businesses to succeed (when I say businesses I include singers, song writers, producers as well as retailers, managers and others in music related work). Working together in partnership, I think this can happen. So tune in on a regular basis to keep up to date.
All the best for your business future.
