Film Makers Conference
Commercial films screened in unusual venues,
Art house films supported by lectures and discussions,
Film making careers sessions and
Short film competition for young people, film students and local amateur film makers
The festival is being put together by Croydon Council’s arts and heritage division, in partnership with the Brit School, Croydon Stagecoach, Croydon Music, Croydon Business Improvement District and local film making organisations Redbag Productions and New Treatment.
Croydon Music and The Brit School are focussed on developing The Film Makers conference which will feature speakers in all area of film production including Music Video production this event will take place on saturday 10th April at the Croydon Clocktower and is completely FREE!
We hope that this festival will lead to a David Lean Cinema film club and a Croydon Filmmakers’ Network, as well as many more exciting film events.
Film Competition
Local film-makers are in with a chance of seeing their productions up on the big screen as the Croydon Film Festival announces three competitions, all with the theme of PASSION.
Short films of under 20 minutes, films of up to one minute made on mobile phones or films made in under 48 hours from start to finish will be under the scrutiny of industry judges who will be looking for compelling story-telling and technical skills to decide which will take the top prizes this April.
There will also be a chance for the public to cast votes on their favourite film in the mobile movies category once the judges have shortlisted the top entries.
There is no restriction on what form films take – they can be live action, silent or animated – but they must all be suitable for a 12a certification. They also need to be finished to a high standard so that they can transfer successfully from computer monitors to the silver screen.
Unfortunately the deadline has passed for the short movie competition but the deadline for mobile movies will be 16 April. The 48 hour challenge will take place over 16-18 April.
Entries can come from individuals or from groups – but at least half of those behind each submission must live, work or study in Croydon. It doesn’t matter how young or old entrants are, and entry to the competition is free.
The award ceremony will take place on Friday 30 April.
