It’s time for music in the park again. The summer is here and Londons best free music festival is here again.
Saturday July 31st and Sunday August 1st is the date for the Croydon Summer Music Festival @ Lloyd Park and this year has one of the most impressive line ups to date.
Headlining this years festival on the 31st for the World Party will be The Lightning Seeds, Motown legend Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, The Damned and Croydons very own songstress ROX and for you Gospel lovers The IDMC Gospel Choir.
Also at the World Party on the saturday will be the world stage and it will be filled with some of the most impressive world music to satisfy the eclectic music listeners. It will feature the Flamenco styled Peyoti for President, Female Muslim hip hop spoken word artists Poetic Pilgrimage. Traditional musicians Cut a Shine and londons only Peruvian Cumbia band Los Chinches. The World stage will also feature Croydons Talent competition, Testing 123 winner Joe Hood along with his band and to top it all off DJ Cal Calder playing Latin beats with contemporary Ska, Reggae, Hip Hop, Salsa and more.
Other stages on the day will feature the Club Soda Pop tent with talented performers from all over Croydon with the highlight being the world number 1 Michael Jackson tribute artist Glenn Jackon. other activities on the day will feature Flamenco workshops with Flamenco Fire, beatbox workshops and so much more.
The sunday will feature the Croydon Mela featuring some of the biggest names in Indian music. Headlining on the O2 Main Stage will be Jassi Sidhu, Taz (Stereo Nation), Raghu Dixit, Eternal Taal, Baluji Shrivastav, Faze Black, Mc Shak and Sanj.C DJ.
There will also be a classical stage featuring Swati Natekar, Tall Vadya Kacheri with Shahbaz Hussain, Amina Khayyam, Tarun Jasani and Kiranpal.
If you are looking for something to do, you would be mad to miss out on this celebration of music. To get to the park just get on the tram towards New Addington and get off at Lloyd Park. There will be parking but the organisers are recommending you leave your cars at home and takeĀ the tram, or ride your bike. Remember to bring cash as vendors will not accept cards. So make sure you check the weather and bring the kids down for a wonderful day out for FREE!
