Free Business Workshops

Here at Croydon Music we try to encourage the adoption of a mainstream business view point when developing your musical aspirations. It is vital to understand the industries success is based on this view point and the exploitation of a huge percentage of individuals happens when this view point is not adopted.

Many of the cases of exploitation we hear about consists of individuals with dreams of stardom and financial rewards, who are taken in by unscrupulous conmen who wish to make money using peoples talents without enriching their clients, or worse the mental and physical exploitation of their wannabes.

It is wonderful if you have aspirations of world dominance, but you must realise the only way you can achieve this aim is to have a different mentality, not one of a dreamer but one of goal achievement and structure. This may sound rather boring but the truth is if you look at the most successful artists and music impresarios around the world, it is vital to them that they have a structured team that are effective and they themselves are very goal orientated.

It is one thing to have goals, but your goals can work against you if you are not ready to achieve them, you may be trying to achieve step 5 before you have completed step 1. This is a common occurrence with people within the music industry simply because they only see the fruits of many a successful artist so believe this is where they should start from. So to be truly successful you need to have an effective plan.

Business plans are like Kryptonite to most musical creatives but they don’t have to be. People see pages and pages of writing, terms that they have not heard before or understand, most just stick their head in the ground and hide from it. Croydon Economic Development Company (CEDC) are hosting free business plan writing workshops and I highly recommend to anyone thinking about developing their business that they attend.

Marketing

Marketing is also an essential area for the music business to develop their knowledge in. To often do businesses get excited about the prospect of marketing their product with out the tools, strategies and knowledge of how to actually do the job.

Marketing is more than printing flyers of blindly attaching friends on social networks. It is necessary to understand the strategy and apply the right strategies to your product. You may find the actual strategy you are using for your product may be harming your business prospects rather than helping it.
