Make your own superstar – Slice the Pie
March 7, 2008
New website gives you the opportunity to support your favourite new artist, turn them into a superstar and make you some money too!
Here at Croydon Music we have been keeping you up to date with the growing trends within the music industry and the different ways the internet is influencing the path the industry is taking. Slicethepie.com claims to allow you to claim a piece of the music industry for yourself.
How does it work?
Well Slice to pie enables artists to raise up to £15,000 to professionally record and release material by turning music fans into mini record labels. Artists are able to raise money directly from their fans, fans can scout for artists and become investors, investors can trade and make profits from trading artist contracts and apart from a small royalty artist keep all their copyright and publishing rights.
This is not the only site where fans can fund the development of artists Sellaband.com practices a similar principle. With Sellaband.com you join and all you have to do is find “believers” who buy one of the 5000 parts of your album, each part costs $10.
Once the act has it’s 5000 parts sold, Sellaband get you to work with an experienced A&R person who will team you up with a top producer and record your album in a state of the art studio. Once you have recorded your album you then make money buy sharing advertising revenue from the Sellaband site which is shared three ways between you the artist, the investors and Sellaband itself. You can also buy CD’s at cost price to sell at your own event or local record stores.
We think this is an interesting development and await stories of it’s success or failure, either way we will keep you informed here @ Croydonmusic.co.uk.
If you are looking for an act to support why not our own local soul singer Audley Anderson who has his own profile on Sellaband.
