Soulcyde
March 4, 2009
A chance meeting at a rehearsal studio led to the birth of SoulCyde, when Natz and Toshi found a passion for music, not a type but all music and a love of performing.
Natz was born in North London of immigrant parents; her Dad is from Pakistan and her mother from Jamaica. Coming from a musical family there was not only singing but also drumming and playing the keyboard. Was that enough? No, so her Dad taught her the bass guitar. Natz first love is singing and writing and her influences include Zapp, N’degeocello, Marcus Millar, Holland Dozier Holland, The Jam, Al Green and Mahlia Jackson.
Natz has recorded tracks for a number of signed producers but her love is live performance as SoulCyde. Drama is a real part of her life and she cites falling 10ft out of an attic and skate boarding into a brick wall as usual events, she is currently preparing to do a sky dive.
Toshi grew up on the other side of the world in Osaka, Japan with his two brothers, Taku and Nao, mountain climbing, camping and generally being rugged! He wanted to play in the school band and decided on the guitar, rhythm and bass. His Media Studies course at college kept him busy, but not too busy to jam with different bands, hip-hop with Def Tex (were he was signed) and funk with Dwee Dop. Along the way, Toshi played, drums and keyboard but never strayed too far from the “main play”, his guitars. Toshi is the guitarist, composer and musical director when SoulCyde play with a full band. His influences include Bootsy Collins, Prince, Sly & Family Stone, EWF, Dennis Brown and Parliament.
