Welcome to Croydon Music
January 31, 2008
The UK music industry contributes nearly five billion pounds to our economy every year and more than 130,000 people work in it in some way, shape or form. In a country with a vibrant live music scene, government commitment to music education for young people and a music market that is the third largest in the world, it is no wonder that every day more and more people are setting up in business as retailers, performers, producers and educators.
More than most, if you are successful in the music business you are going to enjoy good times, however it will not always be the case, especially when you are just starting out. Some of the problems that go along with being in the music industry can be avoided and this is the reason why, in partnership with Croydon Business, we have launched Croydon Music, to provide services, support and advice for individuals from Croydon who work in the music industry.
My name is Trevor Fisher and I am the music business advisor for Croydon and I am proud to announce the launch of Croydon Music (CM). I have been a Croydon resident for over 25 years and in the music industry for over 17 years working in various roles from a roadie to recording artist.
I’ve had good times in the music business I was lucky enough to be signed to Warner Bros. and win a MOBO award, but if there is one thing everyone realises, it is that you will have your share of bad times as well as good.
2008 Will Be A Great Year for Music In Croydon
This year will be a great year for music in Croydon. We have put together a program of events and support tools to assist you in your various music business ventures.
The music industry has changed in all areas whether you are a composer, producer, retailer or performer, and we need to educate ourselves and take advantage of the new opportunities that are available.
Croydon Music has put together a great program of events, including seminars, “Croydon Live” (a series of live music events that will give performers a chance to showcase their talent) and other networking events, that will give everyone involved in music in Croydon the opportunity to exchange views and find potential business partners.
These events will be delivered throughout the year in all areas of Croydon. In addition, this website, a bi-monthly newsletter and other publications will keep you informed, and give voice to the Croydon music community.
Empowering Croydons Music Community For Success
We want to empower the Croydon music community, change attitudes and develop a strong message that makes the rest of London take notice of the talent in one its largest boroughs. We want to create a lively cultural hub that will attract creative talent to the area. We want all Croydon music businesses to succeed. Working together in partnership, I think this can happen. So tune in on a regular basis to keep up to date.
All the best for your business future.
